Contest Overview and Contestant Expectations

The following information is provided to event contestants for the First Responder UAS Indoor Challenge (UAS 4.0).

The contest begins on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Contestants must arrive between 7:15-7:45 am CST to check in. The contest will begin promptly at 8:00 am. Contestants who do not check in before start time may be unable to participate. No contestants will be permitted access to the facility prior to 7:15 am CST on May 2, 2023.

Upon check-in, contestant teams will be assigned a team number. The team number corresponds to the event schedule.

Contestants are required to attend a daily safety briefing from 8:00-8:30 am CST at the event location. Contestants may then remain at the event location but may leave as needed. Contestants must ensure they are at the event location and ready to participate a minimum of 15 minutes before their scheduled event start times. A contestant lounge area will be available for teams remaining on site and waiting between events.

A dinner will be hosted at 5:00 pm CST on Thursday, May 4, 2023. All competing teams and contestants should plan to attend.

The contest will be held at Hangar 600 in the Salina Airport Industrial Park. Look for “Airport Event” banners and signs directing towards Hangar 600. Check-in is located on the north east building entrance.

Contestant Amenities

Contestants will have a designated lounge area to meet and work located within the facility.

Wireless internet is available in the facility at no cost using the following login:

Replacement parts will not be readily available and contestants should come prepared with any back-up parts should they anticipate needing them. Basic supplies can be obtained at a few stores, listed below, that are within a few minutes drive of the event location.

Security of items cannot be guaranteed. Contestants are encouraged to monitor and securely store any and all items. NIST, Capitol Consulting Corporation, Kansas State University, and the Salina Airport Authority are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged items.

The smoking of cigarettes, cigars, pipes or burning tobacco in any other form or device, as well as the use of electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, hookah or other water pipe devices and all other related devices, is prohibited on university property and in university owned vehicles.
